Kempsville Road Closure on Sunday, Jan. 27, and Sunday, Feb. 3, and Delays on I-264

kempsville road closure 2019.01.27
Traffic Impact #1
For the weekends of Sunday, Jan. 27, and Sunday, Feb. 3, VDOT plans to close Kempsville Road at the I-264 overpass for work on the bridge structure. The road and sidewalks will be closed in both directions. This affects people coming from Norfolk on Kempsville Road. Motorists will need to use Center Drive and then turn right on Newtown and then another right on Kempsville.
This same closure will be in place during the evenings and overnight hours the week of Jan. 28. This will affect BSF on Monday evening and Wednesday evening activities.
Traffic Impact #2
Traffic on I-264 east and west between the Newtown and Witchduck exits will be slowed for up to 15 minutes about once per hour between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, and Sunday, Jan. 27, for power line work over the interstate. The same traffic-slowing operations are scheduled for the same hours (6-11 a.m.) the weekend of Feb. 9 and 10. If either weekend must be rescheduled, the back-up dates are Feb. 2-3 and Feb. 16-17.
While traffic is slowed on the interstate, vehicles will also be temporarily stopped at nearby on-ramps to I-264.
The traffic-slowing operations are required to allow Dominion Energy to pull overhead transmission lines in support of the utility’s Greenwich-Burton 115KV Rebuild Project.
